I'm in the process of reading the Benni Harper mysteries. Initially I started reading them because i'm a quilter who loves mysteries. At times I find her character foolish and a bit irresponsible (I realize that's how the author gets her into some pretty dangerous situations), and I did find the HUD storline a bit contrived, but all in all I found this book good read. And I do find that with each book the storylines improve. They have more depth.

This was probably my least favorite of the Benni Harper series but still excellent and a must read in the progression of the storyline...all the books are wonderful, I just love the others more.
Read whole series. Must read, easy reading.
Seven Sisters is the story of families and their secrets... well told, as always, and has lots of subject matter dealing with Muenchausen's syndrome.
I have read all of Earlene Fowler's books. I enjoy the Benni Harper ones the most. I love the characters and I also enjoy reading about that part of California - I spent part of my childhood in the LA area and that is really all I know about California. So these books are interesting to me for a number of reasons. I think Earlene Fowler is a gifted storyteller (and I also love the information on quilts), but I think her real strength is in creating characters that we love.
I enjoyed parts of this series, but this is my last one. The plot was just too full of holes. In real life, Detective Hudson wouldn't have been able to involve Benni the way he did. You just don't take along a civilian on your investigation. And how was he going to justify dropping the case after learning who the murderer was? And what happened to the grieving widow? She disappeared from the story & wasn't even heard from when her cousin was hospitalized.
While I have always liked the author's other books, I found this one to be a bit long and dragged out, no matter how interesting it was.
ON kindle and loved it. Well written series but start at book one to get all the nuances. She does not spoon feed history like cozy mysteries, if I had not read the ones up to this i would have gone back and done so.
