Birds in Paradise humorous mystery novella edition by Dorothy McFalls Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
This is a fun and flirty cozy mystery novella with just the right amount of romance added in. Kyra had once been down on her luck. When she got caught stealing, Pete, a handsome Hawaiian cop, slid her a break and helped her get on her feet. Now she has a haphazard sort of investigation service - and no license.Kyra is a cute, appealing heroine who is always sticking her neck out and getting herself in trouble. Pete is very protective over her, except he treats her like a little sister rather than a girlfriend. She keeps hoping their relationship will change to a romance, but their communications keep misfiring.
When Kyra goes undercover as a prostitute to search for clues about a client's sister and other missing prostitutes, the mix-up with Pete gets even worse. Thinking she is desperate for money, he does all he can to keep her from walking the streets - including making her spend the night in his own bedroom. Could it be Pete secretly loves Kyra as much as she loves him? Or will she forever be just a little sister?
Although some of the subject matter touches on serious crimes, the tone of this cozy novella is light and breezy, laced with humor and romance throughout. A fast-paced, enjoyable read!

Birds in Paradise humorous mystery novella edition by Dorothy McFalls Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Needless to say, the concept was a good idea. But the story line was so poorly executed, there were grammatical errors throughout the book and I could tell the author visited the islands once. Hopefully her writing has improved in some of her other writings.
I liked kyra and Pete, want to read more of their adventures. I would really like more descriptions woven into the story. The plot was very simple, not requiring much concentration, but . It was light and simple. I especially liked the author notes at the end.
Birds in Paradise is a detective book starring a young woman, located in Hawaii. Kyra is a reformed pick-pocket, who changed her ways after being given a second chance from Pete, the local police detective that could have arrested her. Pete helped Kyra get set up in a local hotel, where she worked in exchange for her room.
After getting off the streets, Kyra discovered her talent for sleuthing. Pete, as a good, straight laced cop, doesn't approve of Kyra's unlicensed PI work. He thinks of her as a little sister, who he needs to help, and protect. Untrained, she certainly isn't safe running around investigating. Kyra, of course, has a different idea. She continues to investigate while trying to stay out of Pete's sight. When young, new prostitutes start disappearing, Kyra feels especially drawn to the case. Misunderstandings abound, as Pete learns of her activities related to the investigation, and Kyra has to cover up her actions.
Overall, I felt this was a good book. It is pretty fast paced, and makes for a somewhat quick read. The characters are believable, even though some of their actions don't make much sense. That just makes them that much more human.
If you like detective stories, sassy female leads, and are looking for an easy, light read, this is the book for you.
Spoiler alert.
Young women and new to prostitution are missing. Tina Hartfield matches the profile and being missing is out of her character. Without a license but with all the right motives, Kyra takes on a new investigation. Mr. Fu, a rumored mob boss, is somehow involved. Having to dive into the streets for information Detective Aloha Pete, of the Honolulu Police, misunderstands and her one-sided crush becomes much more complicated while Pete is determined to keep Kyra off the street, off the search for the missing women, and safe. Not easy when somebody is willing to take permanent measures to remove Kyra.
I liked this novelette length story. It was fast paced and had me caring for the motivation of the characters. Even in so few of pages the depths of Kyra's character comes through. I look forward to reading more by Dorothy McFalls, but maybe a novel this time.
I went on line and found this product in a matter of minutes. I Never left home and I never stood in line. I was very pleased when it arrived so fast and the product was exactly as described. I would absolutely recommend this seller due to the outstanding customer service I received
I have been on an island/beach reading kick lately and this novella set in Wakkii fit this mood perfectly. The book is well-written and moves a very brisk clip. Kyra is a PI on a mission and even won't let Pete, who thinks of her as a little sister, stand in her way. Kyra is a strong character and gets the job done in her own way and her own time.
This novella is a great read for summer or vacation. It is an easy, quick-paced mystery and feels complete in itself, though I do hope the author decides to spin this into a series. I think Kyra and Pete have a lot of potential as characters and would love to read about more of their adventures and see them more fully developed.
Overall, easy and satisfying mystery read, perfect for when you are high on reading desire and low on reading time.
Kyra is an un-licensed Private Investigator who knows a crime when she sees it. Now she just has to prove it. As much as she needs the money, Kyra is willing to work for nothing when a desperate young woman comes to her begging for help. Anna and her younger sister Tina came to Hawaii drawn by the beauty of the Islands. Tina is now missing and after careful persuasion from Kyra, Anna admits that her sister may have ventured into prostitution. In the process of hunting for Tina, Krya discovers that five other girls have mysteriously disappeared from "the streets". Following a series or twists and turns, Kyra becomes a target of a ruthless criminal preying on young women. While the story revolves around the ugliness of the Sex Trade Industry, it is also a love story. Kyra admits that she has an "elephant-sized" crush on the handsome police detective, Aloha Pete. No question that Pete has feelings for her as well. But is it love? That's the other mystery the beautiful P.I. and police detective set out to solve. A terrific read. Exactly the right length and depth for a fast-paced novella. Enjoy!
