Gates of Thread and Stone Lori M Lee Books

This book is a 3.5 at best but I couldn't bring myself to raise it to a 4. While it served its purpose and was entertaining, and some of the concepts were very unique the interaction between some of the characters was disappointing. The main characters are around 18 years old and yet they constantly act like love struck, or over sexed tweens. Its the oddest thing. No matter who they cross, they want sex, Kai, Avan and Reev are like walking aphrodisiacs. I love how strange her relationship is with her adoptive brother and while I also enjoy Kai and Avan's relationship, they skirt around one another like they are easily startled or incredibly horny.

This of course improved as the book went along and Ive ordered the next book because as I said, it was enjoyable, and the concepts are very unique but not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. I would recommend this book for some light reading.

Gates of Thread and Stone Lori M Lee Books Reviews

I was so excited when I finally got this book in the mail. I had read a lot of really positive reviews on good reads, I adore Greek and Roman mythology, and I was ready to be completely blown away. I am not sure what I expected in a labyrinth retelling, but it was definitely not this.

The references to the original story are few and far between. Aside from a neighborhood name and some mechanical ‘greys’ very loosely referencing the minotaur, the original story is all but missing from this book. We are, however, treated to several gods throughout the story. I didn’t find any of them particularly likable or well-developed, and oftentimes their presence was completely unnecessary or downright annoying.

Since the retelling aspect of the story was clearly a miss for me, I had hopes that maybe I could enjoy the book on a different level. The world building is pretty well done, but I didn’t care for any of the characters aside from Death and Irra. Both are complex, safeguard mysterious pasts, and have a way of showing that draws the reader into the story almost instantly. Unfortunately they didn’t play a big enough part in the story to save it.

The plot overall also moved painstakingly slowly. The very beginning of the book was lovely, but as additional characters are introduced and the plot thickens, the book goes a bit sour for me. It seemed like important events happened in short sprints and, once the excitement was over, we returned to a snail’s pace.

Overall I was really disappointed with this book. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I didn’t connect with any of the characters and felt the plot moved entirely too slowly for my taste. I don’t think I will read any additional books in this series.
i followed the author on Twitter because i see she tweets about books. randomly one day i notice her protagonist is able to fiddle with time, just like mine. and there are review compliants about "the gays" just like mine. similar powers, similar upsetting of old bigots. so i figured, lets give it a read.

enjoyed it. much different in everyway. the dystopian world is well done and i am interested to read more. the author did a great job. i see some shxxty reviews here and f those people in the a. this book was exactly what it claims to be. a great ride from start to finish with mostly decent characters in an imaginative world.

SPOIlERS

my only two dislikes 1 the grand adventure i was excited for became a two paragrah nothing. but you know what, nobody promised me a grand adventure and what i got instead was kinda goofy and cool.

2. the i am father now this should make sense felt lazy. but it wasnt really a big deal for me.

i will be reading book 2.

wrote this review on my kindle. sorry for typos
This is a weird one for me. I liked the book OK, but I doubt I'll read the follow-up's. It was well written with strongly defined characters. It took quite awhile for the story to start but once it did it moved along at a decent pace. The lead was an interesting character, but I found it difficult to hold in my head that she was merely 15--which explained a lot of her behavior.

If you're looking for a romance type story, I'm not sure this story goes far enough in that direction. If you're looking for more of a swords and sorcery there's probably too many romantic qualities to the story. I fell in the latter camp so found those qualities distracting and unnecessary to the story--in fact if you were to remove them entirely it would change nothing (except perhaps the closing chapter).

In the end I don't mind my peek into the worlds of Thread and Stone, but I doubt I'll be returning.
